Baby Info

It seems I have had a horrible oversight in my blogging entries. With all the decisions about which picture, with all of the thousands we have taken, to post I have failed at the most basic information. So here goes. On Saturday night I went to bed having a lot of contractions that were irregular and non-painful. I thought nothing of it, since that had happened before, plus our plan of being induced could not possibly change. Well by 6am the contraction not only became regular, but painful. At 8am, after 2 hours of pure denial that I was going into labor I called the hospital. By then my contractions were 5 minutes apart. After dropping Alicia off at Ali Harkness' house, I was admitted, and they immediately gave me the epidural...which by the way worked absolutely perfect. (Kudos to that anesthesiologist). The epidural, however, slowed my labor, so at 10am they gave me pitocin, and at 12:12 I gave birth to Katherine. She was 7lbs, 7oz and 21 inches long. She lost about a pound in the hospital, but has since gained that plus more. She is a great baby, waking up only once at night (I hope this post does not jinx me). Since the last post I think Ali is starting to realize that Kathrine is staying. This morning she asked to "hold our baby" maybe that is acceptance, but I am waiting for the day when she asks to send the baby back. I am sure that will come, but hopefully not too soon.

Home and in Love

We are home now, and doing great. Katherine is a very sweet baby. She doesn't sleep for long hours like Alicia did, but she makes up for it in pure sweetness. She loves to cuddle and be loved, it makes us not want to ever put her down. Alicia is starting to get used to her little sister, but she is still struggling. Every time we tell her "no" for any reason she has been throwing tantrums. A little extra attention from Abuelita has really helped. Here are a few pictures from the last 2 days.

She especially loves her Abuelita.

Alicia loves Katherine. She especially loves to rock her in the swing, but because of the vigorous rocking that always ensues from her rocking, we don't have any good pictures of that. Instead here is a picture of her holding the baby. She got pretty mad when I took Katherine away. She thinks Katherine is her baby. Which, of course, she is.

This is Katherine's first bath at home. She liked the warm water.

Too tired to write any words now, so enjoy the pics. Everyone is happy and healthy.

Prego Me!

Only 6 days until I deliver, and I am very excited. I feel like a whale, but I guess I don't look that big since people keep telling me to check that I am okay with my doctor. Anyway, since my family is so far away, and airplane tickets being as expensive as they are, it is hard for my family to imagine me as pregnant, so here are a few prego pics of me. I used the self-timer since Nick has been busy studying for the boards, so sorry for the poor quality and the strange camera angles. I really am not a photographer.

July 4th Fun

This weekend we enjoyed a poolside BBQ. Alicia had an especially good time since there were some ants to chase. If you look carefully you can see a prego me in the background.

This is Ali with her friend Lily. (She was actually smiling at another friend and Nick just zoomed the max the camera would allow, so she would not see him take the picture).

The only reason we got pictures of her smiling is because she was too happy while running by Nick. Once she realized that he had taken her picture this smile turned into yelling "no picture, no picture." I didn't know that I could produce a child that would not like her picture being taken. Where did she come from? So much for being just like her Mommy.

Baby #2

Today I got a 3-D ultrasound. Hopefully you can tell that this is the baby's face. Her lips are being squished by her big daddy-like cheeks, and her eyes are closed. According to the lab tech she is approximately 5 1/2 lbs right now. By due date she should theoretically gain a pound more... we shall see.
